Happy Mothers Day/ Bon fet de me: Pran Foto'm

Pran Foto'm is a Hatian-Creole phrase that translates to "take my picture". But at its core, it means more than that. It sometimes means the bush one is beside compliments their outfit nicely and a picture must be taken so the moment is not forgotten. Once the picture is taken, you can almost always guarantee that the picture will be shared with family and friends on Whatsapp. Or in another scenario, the phrase voices one’s pride and confidence in what they are wearing or what has been done prior to the picture being taken. The picture typically contains an individual next to a tree in a squatted pose, with a straight face.

While there aren't any bushes or trees in this project, there are many smiles. In an attempt to celebrate the hand-holders, heart-soothers, encouragers, hug givers, and more that mothers are, I had the privilege of bringing the three closest mothers to me, my mom and her 2 sisters to a studio and got to capture the pride and confidence of what motherhood looks like in the most elegant fashion.

Special thanks to Stephen Massillon & Hadassah Charles for helping me bring this crazy idea to life.
